Prior to the school break in December an incident occurred in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. A young student from Cote First Nation was ridiculed by a staff member for wearing her Ribbon Skirt for her school’s formal wear day. In light of this incident, we wish to show solidarity with Isabella Kulak, this inspiring student from Saskatchewan and demonstrate the beliefs of Regina Public Schools “I Belong, I Respect” by celebrating our Indigenous students and the numerous cultures reflected within our school, both students and staff, by having a Cultural Celebration Day on Friday, January 15th, 2021.
We encourage students and staff to wear clothing that reflects and celebrates their cultures! Everything from Ribbon Skirts, Ribbon Shirts, or whatever you feel reflects your cultural heritage! We look forward to celebrating with you. All students matter at Glen Elm.
