Monday, February 25 Day 4
-The Cree words of the day this week are on the theme of Anti-bullying, as we prepare for our day of Pink on Wednesday. The Cree word of the day is a-wi-yak—ka-as-pi-hat—we-ca-yah. That is the Cree word for bully. This week, we are reminded to NOT BE a a-wi-yak—ka-as-pi-hat—we-ca-yah.
-Plan your outfit for our Glen Elm Day of pink on Wednesday. The more pink you have on, the better!! We can’t wait to see a sea of pink on Wednesday! Your pink outfit might just get you on TV!
-Why wear pink? The original event was organized by David Shepherd and Travis Price of Berwick, Nova Scotia, who in 2007 bought and distributed 50 pink shirts after male ninth grade student Chuck McNeill was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school.
-There is a girls basketball game after school today versus Thompson. GOOOO KNIGHTS!
Tuesday, February 26 Day 5
-The Cree word of the day is ni-to-tem. That is the Cree word for friend. N-i-t-o-t-e-m. The best way to overcome a bully is to be a ni-to-tem to everyone.
-Did you know that bullying occurs every seven minutes on the playground and every 25 minutes in the classroom1 ? Actions have impacts – Be someone’s hero and speak up when you see bullying happening. Participate in Pink Day on tomorrow.
-There are Band Sectionals today
-Remember to wear pink on Wednesday as we observe our Day of Pink. The more pink you have on, the better!!! Your pink outfit might just get you on TV! We will have special guests and a special assembly, and a guest Saskatchewan Roughrider! Even he will be in pink –don’t miss out!
Wednesday, February 27 day 1
-The Cree word of the day is ko-ke-ne-wa-pi-ko-ne-ya. That is the Cree word for pink! Today is our Day of ko-ke-ne-wa-pi-ko-ne-ya.
-We will be welcoming special guests today from the Red Cross, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and the media as we hold our Day of Pink rally this afternoon!
-85% of bullying takes place in front of others. Did you know that when a bystander intervenes within 10 seconds of the start of a bullying situation, it will stop completely one out of two times? Actions have impacts – Be someone’s hero and speak up when you see bullying happening!
-There will be Senior Collaboration and Primary reading buddies this afternoon
Thursday, February 28 Day 2
-The Cree word of the day is o-na-peh-ka-siw. That is the Cree word for hero. Be someone’s o-na-peh-ka-siw and stand up to bullying.
- Bullying occurs most frequently at schools , and in areas where there are many students and few adults5 . This means that students have the most power to change bullying situations. Actions have impacts – Be someone’s hero and speak up when you see bullying happening!
-The Grade 5&6 classes are heading skating this afternoon. Have fun!
-There is full band today
-There is a boys basketball game after school versus Thomson. GOOOO KNIGHTS!!!
=It is Dr Seuss’s birthday tomorrow! Dress like a thing in honour of this special day!
Friday, March 1 Day 3
-The Cree word of the day is o-ki-se-wa-tis. That is the Cree word for kind. In a world where you can be anything, be o-ki-se-wa-tis.
-Today we welcome our special guests from Saskatchewan Express! They will be working with Ms Knoll’s class this morning, and will be offering a performance for the entire school this afternoon at 1:00pm. Welcome!
- March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday—what better way to celebrate than to read? Did you know Dr. Seuss would be 115 this year? While he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the pages of his books. He forever changed the way children’s books were written and continues to inspire generations.
In Katroo, every year, on the day you were born
They start the day right in the bright early morn
When the Birthday Honk-Honker hikes high up Mt. Zorn
and lets loose a big blast on the big Birthday Horn.
And the voice of the horn calls out loud as it plays:
"Wake up! For today is your Day of all Days!"
